The Steve Miller Plan – at Oke Hypnotherapy in Manchester

August 16, 2011

Earlier this year, I had the pleasure of attending a couple of seminars with Steve Miller, presenter of the Sky TV series “Fat Families” and author of “From Fat to Fit”, “Get off Your Arse and Lose Weight” and “7 Secrets of Confidence”.

I was pleased to find that Steve’s methods are very similar to the way that I work with weight loss clients, in particular his 80/20 plan, and we hit it off straight away as our opinions and techniques overlap greatly. Having stayed in touch, often discussing coaching and hypnotherapy techniques, particularly for weight loss and confidence clients, we decided it would be great to work together, combining our skills and experience as hypnotherapists and life coaches.

It’s my great pleasure to announce that Steve and I will be presenting “The Steve Miller Plan” at Oke Hypnotherapy Manchester on 8th October, 2011.

The day will run from 9:30am to 4:30 pm and will include:

The “80/20 Plan” of food control.
Learn self-hypnosis for weight loss.
How to stop comfort eating.
Exercising for pleasure, not pain!
How to keep the weight off!

Delegates will also receive a copy of the Steve Miller Weight Loss Manual – this is not available in the shops!

Facebook

June 28, 2010

I finally got round to setting up a Facebook page for Oke Hypnotherapy (I previously set up a group but lacked the time to keep it up to date).

The plan is to update the Facebook page daily (or as close as I can get to that). No, it won’t just be a pile of adverts! I intend posting up useful tips on weight loss, self-confidence, overcoming addictions and lots more. It will also be a faster way to keep people updated on seminars and workshops, although the full versions of such posts will appear on this blog and on my website.

Release Negative Emotions – Saturday 4th September, 2010

June 28, 2010

This is a one day workshop, held in Manchester City Centre.

Negative emotions such as worry, guilt, jealousy, anger, hate, regret, apathy, fear and blame don’t achieve anything. They just make situations harder to deal with and can harm you both mentally and physically! The anxiety caused by these feelings cause your body to go into “fight or flight”. During this process, your heart rate and blood pressure increase, your body makes adrenalin that isn’t going to be used, your immune system lowers and your digestive system slows down.

This one day workshop is based on techniques Gary uses successfully with clients suffering from anxiety, depression, and confidence problems but is a workshop everyone can benefit from.

You will learn how to reframe situations and therefore be able to control or eliminate the aforementioned emotions.

You will learn how to relieve stress so that you can see things in their true perspective without unnecessary anxiety.

You will find that when you are free from the limits of these emotions, as well as from your own limiting beliefs, you will be able to do the things that you have known for a long time that you ought to be able to do. This will enable you to reach your full potential in life.

The course is run by Gary Oke of Oke Hypnotherapy. Gary holds diplomas in Hypnotherapy and Stress Management, Advanced Hypnotherapy, Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Life Coaching, Emotional Freedom Technique, Complete Mind Therapies, and is a British Ethical School of Therapies Master Practitioner in Applied Clinical Hypnosis as well as being a member of the British Institute of Hypnotherapy and the General Hypnotherapy Register. Gary also teaches hypnotherapy at British Ethical School of Therapies where he was originally a student.

In addition to his experience as a hypnotherapist, NLP practitioner and Life Coach, Gary has trained and managed sales and telesales teams on a national level. This work includes motivational training, sales training, interpersonal skills and time management. Gary has also worked alongside management consultants on “Commitment to Excellence” and “World Class Business” programmes.

Gary was also on Duncan Bannatyne’s team of experts for the recent television show on Virgin One “Duncan Bannatyne’s Seaside Rescue” where Gary coached and produced a cast of actors as part of the improvements made to the Newquay tourist attraction “Tunnels Through Time” (now Buccaneer Bay). Some of the cast had no previous acting experience but were “camera ready” in under a week, from both performance and confidence perspectives!

The cost of the course is £99.00 per person. Discounts are available for groups of four or more.

Places must be pre-booked as numbers are restricted. To book a place on this course, please call 0800 197 2775 or email gary@okehypnotherapy.co.uk.

Self-Confidence Workshop – Saturday 21st August, 2010

June 28, 2010

This is a full day workshop and is being held in Manchester City Centre

Most of us have been in situations when our reactions were not appropriate. We may have felt insecure, nervous or out of control. Assertiveness and confidence is learned behaviour. When we learn how to communicate clearly our needs, wants and feelings we find that we have better relationships with people around us, at work or at home. We also have a better relationship with the most important person in our life – ourselves.

This one day workshop will give you practical tools and techniques which will help you be more confident and successful when you are communicating with others. The workshop will help you to understand how your behaviour can affect others, positively and negatively. It will help you to make changes in your life, for the better.

The day will cover topics such as:

What is self-confidence?

Why are some people lacking in self-confidence while others exude it?

What makes a person come across as being confident?

How do some people appear to “own the room” when they enter a situation?

Public Speaking and giving presentations.

As well as receiving hypnotherapy throughout the day, you will learn body language and NLP techniques/language structures to give you the assertiveness to control your life in both business and social circles.

Hypnotherapy for Fight Performance / Pre-Fight Anxiety

June 28, 2010

This workshop is open to those involved at a competitive level within full contact fight sports such as Boxing, Muay Thai and Mixed Martial Arts / Cagefighting.

The workshop is due to be held at Evade Blackbelt School in Glossop on Sunday 8th August. The workshop is free of charge to members of Evade and is only £5.00 per person for non-members. You must be pre-booked to attend, if you just turn up on the day then it’s likely you will not be able to take part.

Hypnotherapy, NLP and other mind therapies have been used in sports performance successfully for a number of years. In 1962, the Olympic Committee actually tried to ban the use of hypnosis for athletes as they were concerned it was giving individuals an unfair advantage. This ban was unsuccessful as, although hypnosis is very effective in reaching or maintaining optimum performance and settling pre-competition nerves, it can’t take an athlete beyond his or her abilities the way certain drugs can. Also, how on earth would you prove a person has been hypnotised?

This workshop will explain how hypnotherapy and NLP aid in sports performance, particularly full-contact fight sports, as well as how it can be used to control pre-fight anxiety, nerves, anger, etc. There will also be a group session for confidence in competition as part of the workshop.

For further information, please contact Oke Hypnotherapy in Manchester, or Evade Blackbelt School in Glossop.

New Open Hypnotherapy Clinic in Manchester

February 9, 2010

Many people think that hypnotherapy may be able to help them but are put off by stage hypnosis or from the various myths that people hear about hypnosis. I’ve found that when I speak at events, or run workshops, these fears or concerns are allayed and, depending on the format of the talk or workshop, I normally build in a simple group session so that people can experience hypnosis at the same time. It’s also important for a hypnotherapy client to feel comfortable with their therapist.

With this in mind, I have now started up an “Open Clinic” on the last Friday of each month in Manchester city centre. This will give the public the opportunity to hear more about hypnotherapy, have questions answered, and experience a short relaxation session. The Open Clinic groups are limited to a maximum of five people at a time but if you are uncomfortable with group environments or wish to discuss a personal problem, then individual sessions can be accommodated.

If the Manchester Open Clinic proves popular then this service will also be offered in Sheffield in the near future.

Therapy 32 times more cost effective at increasing happiness than money

January 19, 2010

Research by the University of Warwick and the University of Manchester finds that psychological therapy could be 32 times more cost effective at making you happy than simply obtaining more money. The research has obvious implications for large compensation awards in law courts but also has wider implications for general public health.

Chris Boyce of the University of Warwick and Alex Wood of the University of Manchester compared large data sets where 1000s of people had reported on their well-being. They then looked at how well-being changed due to therapy compared to getting sudden increases in income, such as through lottery wins or pay rises. They found that a 4 month course of psychological therapy had a large effect on well-being. They then showed that the increase in well-being from an £800 course of therapy was so large that it would take a pay rise of over £25,000 to achieve an equivalent increase in well-being. The research therefore demonstrates that psychological therapy could be 32 times more cost effective at making you happy than simply obtaining more money.

Governments pursue economic growth in the belief that it will raise the well-being of its citizens. However, the research suggests that more money only leads to tiny increases in happiness and is an inefficient way to increase the happiness of a population. This research suggests that if policy makers were concerned about improving well-being they would be better off increasing the access and availability of mental health care as opposed to increasing economic growth.

The new research paper, entitled “Money or Mental Health: The Cost of Alleviating Psychological Distress with Monetary Compensation versus Psychological Therapy” is published online this week at: Health Economics, Policy and Law

This research helps to highlight how relatively ineffective extra income is at raising well-being. The researchers further draw on two striking pieces of independent evidence to illustrate their point – over the last 50 years developed countries have not seen any increases to national happiness in spite of huge economic gains. Mental health on the other hand appears to be deteriorating worldwide. The researchers argue that resources should be directed towards the things that have the best chance of improving the health and happiness of our nations – investment in mental health care by increasing the access and availability of psychological therapy could be a more effective way of improving national well-being than the pursuit of income growth.

The research also has important implications for the way in which “pain and suffering” is compensated in courts of law. Currently the default way in which individuals are compensated is with financial compensation. The research suggests that this is an inefficient way at repairing psychological harm following traumatic life events and that a more effective remedy would be to offer psychological therapy.

University of Warwick researcher Chris Boyce said:

“We have shown that psychological therapy could be much more cost effective than financial compensation at alleviating psychological distress. This is not only important in courts of law, where huge financial awards are the default way in which pain and suffering are compensated, but has wider implications for public health and well-being.”

“Often the importance of money for improving our well-being and bringing greater happiness is vastly over-valued in our societies. The benefits of having good mental health, on the other hand, are often not fully appreciated and people do not realise the powerful effect that psychological therapy, such as non-directive counselling, can have on improving our well-being.”
